Nigeria: Fifa Reveals Three Hosting Options

28 January 2009

Lagos — The issue of hosting the next Under-17 World Cup has finally been put to bed with the submission of the final report of the Inspection Team of the global footballing body on the issue. A vice-president of the body, who is the leader of the Inspection Team, Mr. Jack Warner, had declared in Abuja that he, as the leader of the team to give the assessment on Nigeria's readiness, he had all of three options on the issue. But as he had it outlined, all the three were pro-Nigeria.

After telling about his experiences at the nine centres bidding to host the world event, Warner gave an analogy of a similar situation that the president of the global body, Mr. Sepp Blatter, once found himself at the height of the controversy over the ability of South Africa to meet the demands of hosting the World Cup of 2010.

He said: The President, Sepp Blatter, when he was being pressured to name alternative plans for the World Cup Finals of 2010, once told the world media he had three plans - Plan A, B and C and that Plan A was South Africa, Plan B South Africa and Plan C South Africa.

"In the same vein, after my team's inspection of facilities this time in Nigeria, I have three options for the hosting of the Under-17 World Cup. Option A is Nigeria, Option B is Nigeria and Option C is Nigeria," Warner said. Now, the head of the FIFA Inspection Team has submitted the report of his inspection tour of Nigeria, with the same recommendation, which the world body has obviously adopted.
