The Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP), Kwara State chapter, has commended the state government on its concerted efforts on urban and regional planning laws.
The chairman of the institute, Mr. R.A. Olarewaju, who made this commendation when he led his executives to pay a courtesy call on the Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Dr. Ishola Adebayo, stated that the institute has planned for itself an 11-point agenda to assist the state government.
Olarewaju also commended the state government for its giant strides in road constructions and "massive residential housing construction throughout the state for the benefit of the populace."
According to him, the institute is pleased with the new master plan meant to guide the development of an ultra modern GRA for the increasing population of the state capital.
He rolled out the 11-point agenda of the NITP as effective membership drive, construction and delivery of the institute's building by September 2009, visit to the Secretary to the State Government, Commissioners and Council Chairmen, encouragement of the National Building Code and Monitoring of efforts on urban and Regional Planning Law. Others include a visit to the Kwara State Polytechnic and University of Ilorin to facilitate improvement on Town Planning Students learning, initiation of the establishment of the Association of Town Planning Consultants of Nigeria (ATOPCON) in Kwara State, and an annual dinner night and also ensuring punctuality and maintaining jointly agreed upon timing of monthly meetings, social meetings at quarterly periods at selected members residences and an investiture ceremony of the new executive members.
Other executive members are the vice chairman, TPL (Mrs) M.O. Osunwuyi, Secretary, TPL A.Y. Kperogi, PRO, TPL M.S. Giwa, Treasurer, TPL (Mrs.) D.F. Adeware, Auditor, TPL J.Y. Olayioye, Financial Secretary, TPL Isiaka Abdulkareem and two ex-officio TPL Alabi Amuda and TPL AbdulRaheem Adeoti.
