Tunis — Djerba, the island of the lotus eaters, where Ulysses is said to have halted and almost forgotten Penelope, is faithful to its reputation as one of the world's favorite tourist destinations.

In 2008, the American guide "Trip Advisor" ranked the island as the world's best tourist destination.

Indeed, end of 2008 results have confirmed the island's attraction for the many tourists who prefer to spend their holidays on the southern island. In 2008, 1, 33 million visitors spent their holidays in Djerba, representing an increase of 4,12% in comparison with 2007.

The island also boasts the lion's share of revenues with 23% of the country's global tourist earnings.

It is also true that apart of the sweetness of its air and the majestic calm of its olive groves, the island has a number of assets which increasingly lure visitors in search of quiet and peace or those who are more attracted to night life and action.
