Tunis — The sixth edition of the "Butterfly Rally", an all female rally, will take place in Tunisia from March 14 to 21, 2009.
The event which according to the organizers will witness the participation of crews from Tunisia, France, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, Canada, Belgium Algeria, and Libya, is gaining momentum by the year, not only because of its sportsmanship qualities but also as tourist event. Incidentally, registrations for this original event are still open on the website: rallyedespapillons.com. It is expected that a record number of cars and motorcycles will take part in this year's edition.
The event organizer Ms Nadia Gammoudi (see photo), a seasoned rally pilot herself, has announced a "more technical and diversified track" covering some 2000 kilometres of sand dunes, sand and pebble tracks. All in all, six legs mostly set in Tunisia's magic south, which will also enable the participants to discover the country's desert areas and populations.
Faithful to the rally's humanitarian principles, Nadia Gammoudi will lead a "solidarity caravan" which will hand out medicine, toys, and other gifts to the children living in remote parts of the desert.
