Abuja — Presidential candidate of All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in the 2007 elections, and former Head of State, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.), has expressed concern over the current global economic meltdown, saying the drift is peculiar and a moral lesson for Nigeria.
Buhari gave the advice weekend at the wedding ceremony of Aliyu Arome Abubakar Audu, the son of former Kogi State governor, Prince Abubakar Audu and Amina Eri, daughter of the former Chief Judge of Kogi State, Justice Umaru Eri, held at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
He advised the federal government to learn from the United States and Ghana experiences in tackling the global economic crisis currently threatening the nation's economy.
According to him, "What is happening to the global economy is worrisome. What is happening in United States and Ghana is an eye opener of physical, peculiar and moral lessons for our nation".
Buhari, who said most people are yet to come to terms with the reality of the meltdown, prayed that, "God save us from this time of denial of the regression, confrontation and depression".
He explained that Prince Abubakar Audu, prior to the wedding ceremony, sent a powerful delegation to him in Kaduna, inviting him as chairman of the occasion.
He said, "The father of the groom, former governor of Kogi State, sent a strong delegation to me four days ago in Kaduna to be chairman of this occasion by the calibre of people here; I think that he (Audu) is a fulfilled man."
He advised the couple, who he described as entering a critical stage of their lives, to be focused and avoid distraction.
Dignitaries at the event included former Senate President, Ken Nnamani; ANPP National Chairman, Chief Edwin Ume-Ezeoke; former governors of Ogun State, Chief Segun Osoba, Delta State, James Ibori, Ekiti State, Niyi Adebayo, Niger State, Alhaji AbdulKadir Kure and Alhaji Musa Inuwa.
Others include Chief Achike Udenwa, former governor of Imo State and Commerce and Industry Minister, Pioneer PDP chairman, Chief Solomon Lar, former Senate President, Alhaji Ibrahim Mantu, former Information Minister, Prof Jerry Gana, former governor of old Anambra State, Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife, Senator Muhammed Oriare, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the Ohinoyi of Ibira land, Alhaji Ado Ibrahim among others.
