Angola: Authorities Create Conditions to Reproduce Turtles in Lobito

Lobito — The Municipal Administration of Lobito and the Marine Research Regional Institute intend to create soon in the Egipto Praia commune a "Reserve Zone" for the reproduction of turtles.

The information was given Monday by the Lobito administrator, Amaro Segunda Ricardo.

According to the district administrator, who gave an interview to ANGOP, this Reserve Zone creation project aims at protecting this species that is in extinction.

According to Amaro Ricardo, currently the authorities are doing the work of mobilising financial and human resources to support the project, which will bring about gains for tourism and the environment.

Data from the Marine Research Regional Institute reveal that the seafront in Egipto Praia commune is a region in which turtles lay eggs, but because many people collect them on a daily basis, the species can not reproduce.
