Massawa — An arts exhibition prepared by the Agitation and Information Center of the Defense Ministry is being staged in Massawa in connection with the 19th anniversary of Operation Fenkil.
Mr. Ibrahim Ali Sheik, Chairman of the Northern Red Sea Regional Assembly, today opened the exhibition comprising works of sculpture which are staged around Cinema Sigalet in the presence of a number of department heads and the general public.
The works of sculpture portray the Eritrean people's staunch struggle and resistance and the role of women in the struggle for independence, as well as the programs being implemented within the framework of the Warsay-Yikaalo Development Campaign.
The head of the Center, Brig. General Teklemichael Sebhatu, gave briefings at the opening ceremony on the objectives of the exhibition. The artists who prepared the exhibition said that it is aimed at properly documenting past and present history, and thereby bequeath it to future generations.
Meanwhile, different commemorative events are scheduled to take place under the theme "Dehai Wegahta" in a bid to colorfully commemorate the historic Day, according to the coordinating committee.
In a related development, Eritrean nationals residing in the Dutch cities of Amsterdam and Rotterdam commemorated the 19th anniversary of Operation Fenkil and the liberation of Massawa. In the celebrations in which more than 600 nationals took part, different briefings and poetry recitals were presented.
