Nigeria: Funmi Iyanda Launches Change-a-Life Foundation

After seven years of touching the lives of many where it matters most, Funmi Iyanda's Change-A-Life project, which is in partnership with the Lagos State Government, has become formally institutionalised as Change-A-Life Foundation.

The event to herald the foundation is expected to take place on February 21 and will be televised live on Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) between 7 p.m.-9 p.m.

The project, which is championed by television producer, director, presenter and author, Funmi Iyanda, began in 2002 with the support of the former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu, with 68 people awarded grants of N10,000 each for micro-businesses and educational projects.

The scheme has since intervened in the lives of people like Sekinat Ayeyemi, who is now the current project co-coordinator.

According to Iyanda, "Change-A-Life is about people, regardless of gender, ethnicity or religion. It's about changing the face of humanity one person at a time."

With the continued assistance of the Lagos State Government, the project has been able to evolve into a family support scheme for exceptional but indigent young people, who come from one-parent homes.

In the last few years of initiation, the Change-A-Life project has affected 150 children and over 3,000 people with its scholarship and health care support services.

In Iyanda's words: "we were just doing what we thought was right at the time, which is helping hardworking people, who just needed a handit is really about human dignity."

After seven years of operating as an arm of New Dawn with Funmi Iyanda, Change-A-Life has been launched as a full-fledged organisation, which is now capable of accommodating more deserving youth and families with exceptional potential.

"We are asking everyone to get involved, it takes only one person to change a life," Iyanda concluded.

Surely, this is the beginning of what promises, like other project before it, to raise the bar of human development.

am really impressed by funmi's passion to help other people. i strongly believe that such gesture is what our society need. i pray that the grace of God almighty, who enjoins us to extend a helping hand to others will see funmi through. i also pray that other state government, individuals and other business organizations will come to partner with the foundation, so that more and more people could be touched through this foundation. Funmi, its really a laudable idea, GOD BLESS YOU AND THE WORKS OF YOUR HAND. AMEN
