Angola: Malanje Government Invests in Infrastructures Repair

The governor of the northern Malanje Province, Boaventura Cardoso, announced last Thursday that his government is committed to rebuilding the main social and economic infrastructures of the region.

According to the provincial governor, who was speaking in the ambit of the celebrations of the province's 77th anniversary, marked on 13 February, the improvement of the Malanje Province's image depends on the rehabilitation of public and private buildings, basic sanitation and the creation of appropriate rubbish dumps.

Boaventura Cardoso also announced that it will be developed a work to improve green spaces, public street lighting, drinking water supply, as well as the creation of a system for thorough collection of solid residues.

According to him, the provincial government of Malanje intends to set up road signs along the main streets, as well as hold campaigns of sensitising the drivers and pedestrians, aiming at reducing road accidents.

The Public Investments Programme expects for 2009 to implement in Malanje Province, projects of social impact in the domains of education, health, energy, water, among others, the governor said.

Due to the growth of the region, the governor considered to be necessary the drafting of a master plan to regulate its development.

The festive programme, taking place under the motto " Malanje Province the hope of a better future", comprises live interviews through the Television programmes Bom dia Angola and Janela Aberta of the Angolan Public Television (TPA), with the provincial directors, reports on the sectors of health, education, energy and water, as well as a review of the districts of Cacuso, Cangandala and Calandula.

It is also expected the holding of various political, entertainment and sports activities.

Malanje, which celebrates its 77th anniversary, was elevated to the category of city on 13 February 1932, by the first Portuguese governor, Veríssimo Sarmento.
