Tunis — The month of February will be Dutch. On the sidelines of the friendly football match between Tunisia and Holland on Wednesday evening at the Rades sports stadium, a conference on the work of the immense Dutch film director, Johan Van Der Keuken (1938-2001) will be organized from February 12 to 15 at the Ibn Khaldoun Maghrebi House of Culture (maison maghrébine de la culture Ibn Khaldoun) in Tunis.
The conference which will be led by Professor Hedi Khelil of the University of Sousse and Professor Patricia Pisters of the University of Amsterdam, is organized by the Tunisian association for the promotion of cinema critique (ATPCC) jointly with the Dutch Embassy in Tunisia and with the support of "Holland Film".
A great part of the work of the Dutch filmmaker will also be shown alongside the conference.
A true globe trotter, Van Der Keuken will tour the world shooting films and taking photographs. One such trip will take him to Tunis in 1980, where he will shoot the Master and the Giant.
His work includes Flat Jungle, The Eye above the Well, The Palestinians, Amsterdam Global Village, and The Long Holiday.
Gifted with a unique sensitivity and a rare vision, Johan Van Der Keuken will relentlessly strive to merge the fictional and real, the human and the political. His many admirers will certainly appreciate this praiseworthy cultural initiative.
