Public Agenda (Accra)
Kwaku Baah- Acheamfour, Elmina
16 February 2009
Accra — The people of Elmina in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem District of the Central Region (KEEA) have made a distress plea to government to provide more toilet facilities for coastal dwellers.
Such a move, they argued, would not only reduce the spread of diseases in fishing communities but ultimately help areas such as Elmina increase their revenue from tourism.
The spokesperson for a youth group Elmina, Eric Andoh explained that the least said about toilet facilities in the area the better as even the few ones around are "so poor that you can't even enter let alone use them."
He added that such pressing situations have caused most of the people to resort to defecating on the beaches; a situation which he said is not the best. . "The few 'good' ones (toilet facilities) are however not even used by some bad nuts among us who no matter what you do would still defecate along the beaches and I believe laws must be passed to keep such people from such irresponsible acts."
Mr. Eric Andoh emphasized that such situations have contributed not only to the increase in the spread of communicable diseases but also it deters tourists from patronizing the Elmina Castle or even relax along the 'beautiful' beaches. The sight of the townsfolk who line up along the beaches defecating themselves put tourists' off.
Meanwhile Zoomlion Company Limited has appealed to the people to collaborate with the outfit in ensuring proper sanitation in the district.
Mrs.Rhoda Donkor, Central Regional Coordinator of the waste management company explained that such a collaboration would not only help improve sanitation in the area but also help the people save monies they spent on hospital bills as a result of illnesses from the filth that has engulfed the area.
Speaking to Public Agenda during a clean up exercise at Elmina in line with the president's hundred days clean Ghana campaign, Mrs. Rhoda Donkor reiterated the commitment of Zoomlion in ensuring that the country is rid of filth, adding that the country would by so doing reduce the cost of fighting diseases. "Our limited recourses could then be channeled in meeting other pressing needs facing the nation. We have provided dumping facilities which the people are not making judicious use of and as such we appeal to them to use the little we have as we are in the process of providing more to meet the increasing demands of the citizenry," she added. She therefore called on the people to desist from acts that contribute to the spread of diseases in the country.
Mrs. Rhoda Donkor added that a clean Ghana which includes all the major tourist destinations would even go a long way in generating more revenue for the nation of which the people of Elmina would be direct beneficiaries.
"When we continue defecating on our beaches, gutters and any open space, tourists would not be encouraged to visit these filthy places thereby preventing the nation from getting its revenue from tourism. Let's all help keep our surroundings clean by refraining from littering and defecating in gutters and along our beaches as these culminate in increasing the spread of diseases in our country."

Ghana has been and still is part of the Gold Coast. There is more than enough resources in Ghana to make the country thrive. Our leaders have to fight for uis and rely on God ; not those rich demon-influenced people who hide in the darkness of their souls.
We are still being robbed under the guise of aid. Stop giving away our resources. Develop them, process them ourselves.
Daniel 11: 14 And in those times there shall many stand up against the king of the south: also the ROBBERS of your people shall exalt themselves to establish the vision; but they shall fall.

(The Berlin Conference 1884-1885) – 14 European Countries , Turkey & The U. S. are still reaping the benefits of their arrogant decision to dived Black Africa among themselves.
In modern countries, their are toilets inside , that we can flush. The waste goes to a sewage treatment center. We also have water treatment centers. Ghana needs infrasctructure. Pray for each other, help each other, pray for our leaders.
