Nigeria: Electricity - Two Power Plants Underway

Osogbo — Arrangements are in the pipeline for the construction of two power plants in Osun State, to boost electricity supply.

The State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, said this is in anticipation of the high influx of investors into the state, following the establishment of the Living Spring Free Trade Zone.

Oyinlola, who disclosed this in Osogbo, said plans were being perfected to put in place, hydro-power plants in Ede and Okinni, utilising the rivers in the two areas, in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation(UNIDO).

He said his administration is irrevocably committed to massive industrialisation, with its upgrading of existing infrastructure, particularly those in the state capital, while moves are on to extend services to other parts, in expectation of rapid physical development of Osogbo and other satellite settlements.

He said the state remained one of the most relatively peaceful in the country with vast potentials waiting to be tapped, adding that areas of priority attention include development of agriculture, solid minerals, health, education, as well as tourism and culture.
