Lack of confidence, minimum grasp of universal social etiquette and lack of access to credible role models for the Nigerian female folks are reasons why Nigerian women have not prospered in politics, C&M Training, a Nigerian group in the Diaspora with headquarters in London has said.

The group which lamented what it called the lack of appreciable growth in women's participation in Nigerian politics said yesterday at the National Assembly in Abuja that it was working on reversing the trend.

Mr. Moses Andishu who is the Managing Director C&M Training said his organization was collaborating with the Ministry of Women Affairs and the House of Representatives Committee on Women in Parliament to hold a 5-day training on social etiquette and leadership values for women in the Country.

His words, "we have observed that the reason why our women are backward in politics is that they lack the social etiquette, self-esteem no matter how educated they get, and in a very politically competitive world, you don't expect to measure up with men. That is why we are carrying out this training, to help women build confidence and manners.

"Our priority is to bring out the potentials of women so as to make them important contributors in the task of nation building and to their families as well. We need to utilise those potentials because the world is becoming a global village and our women must be fully equipped to compete favourably both at home and in the world arena," he said.
