Angola: Historic Monuments' Rehabilitation Crucial, Says Nationalist

Luanda — Angolan nationalists expressed satisfaction at the plan of rehabilitating monuments, mainly the former prisons associated to the national liberation struggle, to be undertaken by Ministry of Culture.

Speaking to ANGOP at the end of a meeting with minister of Culture, Rosa Cruz e Silva, in the light of the international symposium on the Tarrafal concentration camp (Cape Verde), the nationalist Mendes de Carvalho stressed that due to their importance, the renewal of such monuments will be a starting point for youths to know what was done for Angola's liberation.

Concerning the symposium, Mendes de Carvalho, who is also a writer, added that the event emerges at a period in which the 35th anniversary of the closure of the concentration camp is being commemorated.
