Luanda — Angola's minister of Cutlure, Rosa Cruz e Silva, this Monday here announced the plan to rebuild the "Casa da Reclusão (ex-political prison)", to enable the new generations to have a direct contact with the facts that marked the national independence.
Speaking to the press t the end of a meeting with some political prisoners, in anticipation to the international symposium on the "Tarrafal" concentration camp (Cape Verde), Rosa Cruz e Silva stated that, with such intention, the government wishes to give a new image to this and other historic sites in order to main the memory of Angolans alive.
"We shall start with the "Casa da Reclusão" because it is the most degraded in every term. Our intention is to preserve the moment itself and also the memory of former political prisoners who gave their best the liberation of Angola", stressed Rosa Cruz e Silva.
After the conclusion of the infrastructural Works of the ex-political prison, Rosa Cruz e Silva informed that the next plan will focus on the reconstruction of other buildings that also served as prisons for Angolan patriots during the national liberation struggle.
"The plan also includes the Péu-Péu prison (in southern Cunene province), Missombo prison (Kuando Kubango), São Pedro da Barra Fortress (Luanda) and the São Nicolau Fortres (Namibe). We will seek to give a new image to every infrastructure", he said.
Apart from rehabilitating the infrastructures, Rosa Cruz e Silva stated that in March 2009 a book with testimonies of former political prisoners shall be released. The book was edited by the National Historic Archive.
