Nigeria: SportsDay Gets Sonny Okosuns Tourney Rights

Lagos — Sports daily, SportsDay Newspapers, have been appointed to organize the maiden Sonny Okosuns Memorial Soccer match scheduled for the second quarter of the 2009 in Lagos .

The novelty match which has been tentatively fixed for the last Thursday in May, is expected to feature leading musicians in the country on one side against selected Nollywood stars.

According to GM/Editor-in-Chief of SportsDay, Ben Alaiya, also expected to feature in the match is the Governor of Lagos State and chief host of the event, Barrister Babatunde Raji Fashola, while Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshimhole and his Delta State counterpart, Dr. Emanuel Uduaghan, will be special guests of honour at the novelty match .

The football match is designed to immortalize the late Pan-Africanist musician and according to spokesperson for the Okosuns family, Mr. Charles Okosuns, the event, which is one of the events to mark the first anniversary passage of the icon, will from now on be an annual event. SportsDay, he said was chosen to put the event together because of the caliber of its directors and management and the fact that it has set unmatchable high standards in under six months of its existence.
