Uganda: Police Recover 36 Illegal Guns

Kampala — THE Police in Amuria district have recovered 36 guns and 952 rounds of ammunition in the last six months.

The district Police commander, Patrick Karamura, said on Tuesday that the guns were voluntarily handed in with the support of the Amnesty Commission.

"For the six months I have been here, the district and church leaders have helped us to recover the guns," Karamura told journalists in his office.

He said most guns were acquired during the insurgency by the rebels of the Uganda Peoples Army and the LRA in the Teso region.
