Harare — LEE Roy Lunga, one of the surviving members of the original Chazezesa Challengers, recently received a timely boost ahead of his annual tour of Mozambique beginning April after a local businessman pledged to sponsor the trip.

Richard Simu, who runs Zhangazha Nite Club and Restaurant at Murombedzi Growth Point, has also pledged to contract the musician for regular shows at his joint.

He promised to be consistent in his shows having last played at Murombedzi Growth Point in 2003 with a depleted band after the death of Peter and System Tazvida, the two late Chazezesa Challengers' directors.

Since then, all has not been well for Kamusena until last year as some of the Tazvidas were after the resources they accrued together as Boys DzeSmoko.

Kamusena's new benefactor says he sympathises with the singer who shouldered emotional stress, which nearly overshadowed his works for nearly eight years.

Many may remember the protracted war of words that Kamusena waged against Isaac Tazvida over the use of the name Chazezesa Challengers or Boys DzeSmoko.

There was also a wrangle with the Tazvidas over the music kit.

Remember that time when Isaac Tazvida forced Kamusena to drop the Chazezesa Challengers?

However, Kamusena -- who has remained resolute over the years -- declares that the wars are now over and believes that life still goes on.

"I have since adopted the name Boys DzeSmoko once again because I have the right to do so being one of the founding directors of the band.

"I have also assembled an exciting band that has also gained a lot of experience from sharing the stage with the likes of Alick Macheso during live shows for the greater part of last year," he said.

Kamusena, who enjoys rave reviews on the airwaves with his fifth album Anga Ari Pano, has also managed to keep his band intact for years despite the challenges he encountered.

"We are a happy family and we share the little that we get during live shows. We also hope to keep on with that spirit but the main challenge we are having is to create a huge fan base and we are also looking forward to the Murombedzi deal," he said.

Kamusena has also promised to rope in Somandla Ndebele when he embarks on his annual tour of Mozambique in April that he used to embark on with the original Boys DzeSmoko.

The creative artiste has also developed new dances namely Nhonga Bhiro, Manhende Jive and Shuze.

He boasts of an impressive curriculum vitae having weaned a number of brilliant artistes such as the Utakataka Express drummer Guyson Six Pence and Obert Gomba, who also plays the same role for Macheso.

At the moment, one of his products is dancer Kumbirai Marufu -- better known as Magogorosi who is causing quite a stir in the sungura genre.
