Uganda: Mbabazi to Represent Uganda in Barista Competition

Kampala — FLAVORS Café in Jinja has produced Uganda's second coffee barista champion. Robert Mbabazi emerged champion in the recently-ended Second Uganda National Barista Championship (UNBC) at Sheraton Hotel in Kampala.

The runners up were Peter Musana from Serena Hotel, followed by Vickie Brenda of Ban Café followed and Julius Ndyanabo, a student of Kyambogo University.

A barista is a person who has acquired some level of expertise in the preparation of espresso-based coffee drinks. The champion is to represent Uganda during the annual World Barista Championship (WBC), to be held in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

The event scheduled for April 16 to 19 is the world's largest coffee competition, drawing competitors from more than 56 nations to serve espresso, cappuccinos and original signature drinks to a panel of judges.

At the Sheraton event, Baristas from 27 hotels and coffee cafes competed.
