Nigeria: We're Not Arrested By EFCC - Vaswani Brothers

Lagos — The Vaswani Brothers, owners of Stallion Group, at the weekend denied media reports that members of the group were arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

A statement signed by Chairman of Stallion Group, Mr Sunil Vaswani, said no member of the group was arrested by EFCC.

"This morning, we woke up to be greeted by a deluge of false, malicious and highly sensational headlines by the Nigerian Press associating our honest and hard-working family members with a story that has no connection whatsoever with us the Vaswani Brothers doing business in the name of Stallion Group, yhe Honda Place,Hyundai Place, volkswagen Centre etc.

"For the avoidance of doubt, I wish to state categorically that the three of us, namely Sunil, Haresh and Mahesh famously known as "The Vaswani Brothers" don't have the remotest connection to the petition by the man called Mr Rotimi Sawyerr, who has had a running battle with Koresh and Rajan doing business in Nigeria but belonging to an entirely different Vaswani family. This is a clear case of mistaken identity", he said.

According to the statement "the Vaswanis in this petition, though of Indian descent like ourselves share nothing in common with us the Vaswani Brothers outside our common nationality. They are a different set of businessmen. I would also like to state for the benefit of Nigerian consumers of these newspapers that the name Vaswani is just a common Indian name as you have Musa, Dele or Chike in this country".

"I wish to confirm that we the Vaswani Brothers were never arrested or detained by the EFCC as imputed by that erroneous report. To the best of our knowledge, we have no case standing against us as a family or a business before the EFCC or any law-enforcement agency of the Nigerian Government", the statement said.
