Cameroon: Vatican - Africans Mobilise For Pope's Visit

Africans in The Vatican are bracing up for Pope Benedict XVI's maiden apostolic visit to their continent.

From March 17 to 23, 2009, Pope Benedict XVI will undertake his first pastoral visit to Africa. The visit will be the Supreme Pontiff's 11th international trip, but his first to Africa since he became Pope in April 2005. The fact that the Holy Father will sojourn in two countries only - Cameroon and Angola - doesn't reduce the continental dimension of the visit. While in Cameroon, the Pope will be meeting with bishops from the entire continent to present the working document for the 4 - 25 October 2009 Second Special Assembly for Africa of the Synod of Bishops, which will be dedicated to finding ways Africa can overcome lingering conflicts and seek reconciliation, justice and peace.
