Uganda: Chameleon, Bobi Wine Set for Boxing Contest

Kampala — TOP local artistes Jose Chameleon and Bobby Wine have added venom to a professional boxing grudge fight between Solomon Bogere and Hamza Ssempewo, due March 22.

The two singers, who have had several ego clashes, have taken sides in the highly-billed super lightweight contest to be staged at Sabrinas Pub.

Chameleon whose 2008 hit 'Bayuda' rocked the charts will be in Bogere's corner while arch-rival Bobi Wine of the 'Mazzi Mawanvu' fame will be rooting for Ssempewo.

"The Leon Island team (Chameleon) and Bobi Wine's Fire Base Crew have further boosted interest in this long-awaited fight," said organiser Quraish Walusimbi.

The boxers have also been bitter rivals since their amateur days.

Bogere 6 (6kos)-0-2 will however get to the ring with a prize fighting edge over Ssempewo, 5-1-0.

Bogere, who like his opponent has promised a knock-out in the ten-round contest, has put his three national belts on the line.

Chameleone and Bobi Wine are ardent boxing fans, and have lately offered cash prizes to triumphant pugilists. Bobi Wine's passion for the sport was underlined last year when he featured in a fight where he knocked out his opponent.

The 12-fight night will further be spiced with a four-round women's bantamweight fight featuring a Swede Natalia Stella against Mulinde Nantongo. Another Swede Felix Sosten will take on Friday Mugaya in lightweight.

Sports Television has given the organisers, Biz International, a sh12m publicity boost. CM Enterprises, JBL and Sons, Jomayi and Samona are the other financiers of the evening.
