Angola: Situation in Cunene Still Worrying

Luanda — The co-ordinator of the Civil Protection Commission, Eugénio Laborinho, Wednesday in Luanda said that the situation in southern Cunene province is still worrying, due to the heavy rains hitting the region, Angop learned.

Speaking to Angop, on the fringes of the ceremony of donation by the Association of Zambia Returned Youngsters (Ajapraz), he said that the volume of the rains has already reached over 869,9 millimetres.

"Taking into account the current levels and that the rivers have been receiving much water, which may continue by April, we have to take prevention measures to avoid the situation from worsening," he said.

The official said as well that due to the rains in Ombandja, the bridge linking that district to Ondjiva has been submerged.

According to Eugénio Laborinho, the provinces of Luanda, Kuando-Kuabngo, Moxico, Lunda-Norte and Lunda-Sul, Malanje, Zaire, Cabinda and Kwanza Norte are the other provinces facing great rain threats.
