Kampala — A proposed $26.3m project to reconstruct the main border terminals has reached advanced stages. The parliamentary committee on the national economy and civil works and the lands ministry experts on Tuesday completed a final site inspection tour of the Malaba post.
The committee chairperson, Simon Gerald Menyha, said the implementation of the project was expected to commence in September. The project, Menyha said, was under the East African trade and facilitation programme.
It is funded by the Government and the World Bank. Menyha said the Malaba terminal, Busia, Mutukula at the Tanzanian border and Katuna at the Rwandan border, would be expanded and modern customs equipment installed.
He said the project was meant to improve service delivery through quick clearing of cargo by the customs department and security agencies.
