Gambia: Batigroupe Announces Another Development Project for Gambia

The Gambian leader, Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh, yesterday, received in audience officials of the Batigroupe consortium, an investment firm based in Dakar, Senegal.

The delegation, led to State House by Diaru Diallo, general manager of the Batigroupe consortium, is said to have reached an advanced stage in its discussions with the Gambian leader for possible investment in the country's communication and technology sector.

Speaking to reporters shortly after their meeting with President Jammeh, Diaru Diallo revealed his company's plans to transform The Gambia's broadcasting system into satellite system. The initiative is expected to start within 15 days. "We are committed to kick-starting the project 15 days from now, and it will target both the television and radio, and the internet, amongst others," revealed the Senegalese investor, who also told reporters that their audience with President Jammeh accorded them the opportunity to discuss other undisclosed investment prospects in the country.

Diallo further went on to reveal that investment in the agricultural sector of the country, which is spearheaded by the Versen Company, a subsidiary of the consortium, has already began. It can be recalled that the Batigroupe's general manager and his officials have been in active consultation with the Gambian leader with a view to exploring potential investment opportunities in the country.
