Nigeria: Lesotho Seeks Closer Ties With Country

Lagos — Government of Lesotho yesterday called for greater ties between Nigeria and Lesotho, especially in the area of technical and personnel support.

Speaking while receiving Nigeria's High Commissioner to South Africa and Lesotho, in his palace in Manzini, King Mswati III, said such assistance to his country would complement its manpower base.

He also called for cooperation between the two nations, which he said could lead to the establishment of business concerns for the benefit of both countries and expressed his country's gratitude to Nigeria for its commitment of monetary and human resources for the restoration of peace to the African continent.

In his remarks, Ambassador Buba Marwa, who presented his letter of accreditation to the monarch, said Nigeria would work towards ensuring that both countries take a common position on global issues in the interest of the two nations and the continent.

Marwa, who has concurrent accreditation to South Africa and Lesotho, urged the king to encourage Lesothan investors to take advantage of the abundant investment opportunities in Nigeria.

Marwa conveyed President Umaru Yar'Adua's appreciation to the monarch, for the conducive environment upon which Nigerian investors operate in the country.

He commended King Mswati for his roles in the resolution of the political stalemate in Zimbabwe, as well as the political crisis in Madagascar.
