Kampala — A TEAM of five Chinese experts are in the country to assess damages at Mandela National Stadium Namboole and recommend repairs for the ultra modern sports complex. The team, led by senior technologist Li Fang, will inspect the various facilities at the stadium and report to their foreign aid department.
They will spend two weeks scrutinising the tartan track, scoreboard, electrical, public address system and plumbing installations, assistant sports commissioner Omara Apitta said.
"We have for the last four years written to the Chinese government requesting for various spares. But the coming of this delegation assures us of an overhaul of the facility," explained Apitta.
The team that arrived yesterday also has Sun Hua (electricals and interpreter), Zhang Gang (scoreboard), Huang Jinxu (technologist) and Shen Lei (designer).
Yao Ming, Chinese commerce ministry foreign affairs executive director will join them later.
The 40,202 sitter stadium, named after former South African president Nelson Mandela, was opened in 1997. It was constructed with a $36m Chinese grant.
