Nigeria: CNPP - We'll Drag Obasanjo to Court Soon

Kaduna — Former Kaduna State governor, Alhaji Balarebe Musa, has declared that he will soon go to court to ask for an order that will mandate the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) to investigate former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Musa, who is current Chairman, Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP), explaining why he is currently in court to have the EFCC investigate Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Professor Maurice Iwu, Musa said, "we took the action because there are sufficient and credible allegations justifying the investigation we are calling for.

But EFCC consistently refuses to investigate. There is a provision in the Constitution which can make the court grant an order forcing EFCC to investigate and that is what we are doing," he said.

He said what he is doing with some of his political colleagues "is in public interest and we are doing it because we are patriots.

I can tell you that at the moment, we are preparing to do the same thing on Obasanjo and one other. We are also going to court regarding a number of public officers that EFCC has refused to investigate," he said. When told that some members of the National Assembly seem ready to protect Iwu, Musa said, "you have to expect it.

Some members of the National Assembly at both state and National Assemblies are there simply because of the malpractices in the election processes in Nigeria, which Iwu was directly responsible for. Since he helped them to be in either the state or National Assemblies, it is to be expected that some of them will want him to remain in his current post.

Some of them are grateful to him, that is why they are defending him, otherwise there is no justification for their action," he said.
