Tunis — The 2008-2009 Davos World Economic Forum Global Information Technology Report ranks Tunisia first in the Maghreb and in Africa for the third consecutive year.
Under the theme "Mobility in a Networked World" the Report covers 134 economies worldwide, as compared with 127 in 2007-2008.
The Report which remains the world's most comprehensive and authoritative international assessment of the impact of ICT on the development process and the competitiveness of nations, was recently published by the Davos World Economic Forum (WEF).
Tunisia which is ranked 38 th out of 134 countries, with an overall score of 4,34 "leads the way again with a large and widening gap" writes the Report, in reference to Tunisia's first place in the Maghreb and in Africa.
Tunisia precedes such countries as Hungary (41), Italy (45), Greece (55), Brazil (59), Turkey (61) and Poland (69).
In Africa, Tunisia comes well before Morocco (86), Egypt (76) and South Africa (52).
The Report is based on three key components, the Environment component, the Readiness component and the Usage component.
In the various sub-components making up the Report, Tunisia is ranked 3 rd in the world in terms of government procurement of advanced technological products and as well as for the government's success in ICT promotion, it is also ranked 8 th in terms of the government's prioritization of ICT, and 10 th in the importance of ICT to the government's vision of the future.
In the readiness component, Tunisia is ranked 7 th in the world for the quality of its math and science education.
Denmark (1) leads the rankings with a score of 5,86, closely followed by Sweden (2) and the United States (3).
