Zimbabwe: Premier ATMs Now Dispensing Foreign Currency

Harare — PREMIER Banking Corporation has become the first local financial institution in Zimbabwe to enable its Automated Teller Machines to dispense foreign currency.

The bank yesterday announced that its clients could now access a minimum of US$1 and a maximum of US$500 from its ATMs located in Harare and Bulawayo.

Speaking at the launch, chief marketing officer, Ms Sapi Bachi, said the banking institution was extremely proud of this achievement which is part of the bank's strategy of bringing greater convenience to its customers.

"All customers have to do is walk up to any ATM and use their existing Premier Convenience Debit Card and transact. We have been able to link the existing account details to clients' foreign currency accounts so there is no need for new account details or a new pin number," she added.

The financial institution is optimistic about the future and it is in the process of rolling out Point of Sale terminals in selected retail outlets.

"This will curb the need to carry large sums of cash when shopping and the inconvenience of credit notes from retailers."

Who in their right mind would give a bank hundreds or thousands in US $ to hold for them until they dole it back through their ATM? Sounds like an uncle bob account to me. I can just see the look on the first guy to get kwatchas instead of dollars with a not: SORRY TEMPORARILY OUT OF US CURRENCY.
