Ilorin — No fewer than 700 Nigerian soldiers have been deployed to the United Nations for peace keeping assignment.
The Commanding Officer, Peace Keeping Centre, Brig-Gen, Emeka Onwuamaegbu, disclosed this in Ilorin yesterday at Sobi Barracks at the Pre-Induction and African Contingency Training Assistance (ACOTA) graduation. He warned the affected solders not to derail from the peacekeeping exercise in Liberia.
Emeka Onwuamaegbu reiterated that they must make sure they do not disgrace the Nigerian nation while in Liberia urging that they must do all within their means to uphold the integrity of the country among the comity of nations and show the high level of training they have received.
He added that another important thing the contingents must not forget is that the resource spent in training them is much.
Brig-Gen Onwuamaegbu also said that, "The areas of training we have concentrated on for these contingency are cross cutters, that is how to fire at a close range, signals, weapon handling, map reading and others. So for all these you know you must be seriously".
He said it is in order to make sure that a high level of discipline is maintained in Liberia that two soldiers who were not fit were dropped among the contingents.
According to him "Apart from the two soldiers who will not participate because they did not pass the tests I certify that 222 battalion is fit to be admitted into Liberia. I greet the ACOTA evaluation and the instructors from Peace keeping centre. I commend Ed Bears and his group from the US most immensely."
