Construction of the K6.7 billion housing units in Nakonde has reached an advanced stage, with 12 houses constructed out of the targeted 60.
Nakonde acting District Commissioner, Evans Mpande, said when Works and Supply Minister, Mike Mulongoti, visited the houses that 28 low costs, 10 medium and 12 high cost housing units would be built.
Mr Mpande said the housing units would accommodate all Government officials working in the district.
"The Government is building about 60 houses which would be divided in classes. These houses will be for police officer, boarder post officials and Government employees in Nakonde," Mr Mpande said.
He said the low cost area would be completed this June before the commencement of medium cost and later, high cost units.
Mr Mpande said completion of the houses would ease Government employees' accommodation worries.
Mr Mulongoti said the Government was determined to provide accommodation to every employee especially to those working in boarder areas of the country.
He said the Government would not condone any Government official not taking care of the houses.
Mr Mulongoti said Government workers were finding more difficulties to look for accommodation, hence the need to build houses for them.
"The Government is committed to providing accommodation to its employees. We have built the same housing units at Chirundu," he said.
