Angola: Governor Calls on Farmers to Take Advantage of Presild

6 April 2009

The governor of central Benguela province, Armando da Cruz Neto, over the weekend appealed to farmers to produce goods of quality so they are absorbed by the Programme of Restructuring of the System of Logistics and Distribution of Basic Commodities to the Population (Presild).

The official, who was speaking at the inauguration of the Catumbela distribution outlet designed to supply the markets of the "Nosso Super" network, in central and southern regions, with goods from national farmers, said Presild's advantages should be met with credible goods.

Armado da Cruz Neto said that with the achievement of peace about seven years ago and the fact that the country has recorded good rates of economic growth, products of quality are required to supply the logistic systems.

With free circulation of people and goods throughout the national territory, Presild's distribution outlets will be logistic units of peace that will provide necessary conditions for consumption.

Catumbela outlet, in Lobito district, has the capacity of storing 6,000 tons of several products and will supply the supermarkets and shops of the Nosso Super network in the provinces of Benguela, Kuanza-Sul, Huambo, Huíla, Bié, Namibe, Cunene and Kuando-Kubango.

The infrastructure, which was built in 12 months, employs 150 workers, 95 percent of which are Angolans, will be open from Mondays to Fridays.
