The West African Development Bank has granted Togo a CFA F 7b (US$14m) loan for part financing of a hydro-agricultural development project in the Lower Mono Valley.

The project aims to develop the valley, especially the irrigation of the land there.

The Mono Valley, situated in the South-east Togo, is an area suitable for agricultural production.

It is located between Togo and Benin and covers 70,000 ha, 40,000 of which is in Togo.

The project covers only 15,000 ha meant for the production of rice, maize, leguminous plants, fish farming and animal husbandry.
