Sierra Leone: Water Supply in Kenema Drops By 25 Percent

Kenema — Branch manager of the Sierra Leone water company in Kenema has disclosed to Concord Times that supply of water to the township has drastically reduced from 45% to 20%.

Lansana Sawui said the development has led to a shortage of water supply in the entire municipality.

He said human activities like logging and the burning of coal around the water catchments are grossly undermining the adequate supply of water to residents of the city.

Sawui said notwithstanding the shortage of water supply, his institution always ensures that the available water at the catchments is rationed to consumers.

He therefore urged consumers to pay their rates as the company is presently faced with serious financial constraints.

Sawui also called on the Mayor and local authorities to help the organization in protecting the catchments from illegal activities.
