Sierra Leone: SLRA Intensifies Road Maintenance

Kenema — Engineer working with the Sierra Leone roads authority, SLRA in the southern district headquarter of Kenema has revealed to journalists at his Hanga Road office that his organization was engaged in a rapid road maintenance within the district and the city in particular.

Phodie Musa Kamara said that since the raining season is getting nearer they intend to rehabilitate dilapidated roads so that they will not become dead trap for vehicles and motor bikes.

He said most of the major streets like Sumaila Street, Suma Street, Kaisamba Terrace, Homonya Avanue and Moriba Street are currently undergoing constructive maintenance.

The work he said included the construction of drainages, culverts and bridges to avoid erosion especially during the rains.

"We are very determined to ensure that the little money we receive from road fund is properly used. Our roads are bad and therefore we need to rehabilitate them thus ensuring smooth and comfortable journey for road users," he said adding that his office is collaborating with the councils to mend the roads.

Kamara also disclosed that funding from the Government of Sierra Leone is on the way for the construction of thirty Kilometers feeder roads in all the cities in the Districts.

He commended the Kenema city council for their cooperation.
