Elections will not take place in 11 sports federations listed for concession by the National Sports commission (NSC), according to a guideline for elections into the sports federations.
A copy of the guideline made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Friday shows that cycling, golf, hockey, kickboxing and kung fu were exempted from elections.
Other sports exempted are rowing and yachting, rugby, scrabble, shooting, squash racket and swimming.
The federations listed for election are athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, chess, cricket, fives, gymnastics, handball, judo, karate, Para-soccer, table tennis, traditional sports, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling and darts.
Elections in the six geo-political zones will take place on April 20, while the national election is slated for April 28 in Abuja.
Under the guideline, persons seeking election at both zonal and national levels must be physically present.
Each state association is expected to present its representative for zonal election, while those elected at the zonal levels would form the Electoral College to elect the executive board members.
Positions to be contested for at the national level are the President, the First Vice-President and the Second Vice-President.
"For election to be valid, not less than two-thirds of the members must be present.
"Election must be through secret ballot and the result must be released and announced immediately after the conclusion of voting," says the guideline.
The zonal coordinators as the chief electoral officers have the power to decide on any dispute arising from the zonal election after the protestor would have paid the protest fee of N100,000.
An appeal would be looked into by an Appeal Committee headed by the Director-General, with the Directors of Sports Development, Technical /Coaching, Legal Adviser and the Head of National Sports Federation Secretary as members.
"The decision of the appeal committee is final and not subject to contest in any court of law.
"In case of a successful appeal, there shall be bye-election within one week," the guideline states.
The Minister of Sports and Chairman of the NSC, Sanni Ndanusa, is expected to inaugurate the new boards of the federations on May 14.
