Nigeria: Govt Okays N1.24 Billion for Solar Energy Boreholes

Kano — Determined to boost the standard of education and to also improve the welfare ofiIts students in the state, the Kano State government has approved the sum of N1.24 billion for the execution of various projects in the state.

The projects include the construction of a community school in Gwale Local Government Area, 152 solar energy powered boreholes, and 267 VIP toilets in various schools across the state.

According to him, these projects are under the Federal Government's conditional grants scheme in which 50 per cent of the total sum represents a special counterpart grant from the government under the millennium development goals programme.

The state Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Haruna Isa Dederi, who disclosed this to reporters on the outcome of the state weekly executive council meeting at the Government House stated that the move will greatly improve the condition of schools and further enhance the welfare of students in the state.

According to him, the council has also approved the release of N210.1 million for the purchase and installation of pipes within the greater Kano reticulation system as part of the sustained efforts of the State Government to ensure that all parts of Kano Metropolis enjoy steady water supply.

On the issue of the proposed private Medical University which will be built by a private organization, the council consented to release N104.7 million to be paid as compensation for the land acquired in Bichi, Headquarters of Bichi Local Government Area of the State for the citing of the proposed Private Medical University.

Barrister Dederi further revealed that the Council has approved N82.2 million as compensation for land acquired at Tumfafi Village of Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area where the Malaysian Housing Scheme will take off.

He said that the payment will serve as a concluding part of payment for all lands acquired for the housing project which will commence shortly.
