Accha, also known as hungry rice is among the important cereals that is commonly grown by farmers in Plateau State and predominantly in the Middle Belt.

The states include Niger, southern Kaduna, Federal Capital Territory, Bauchi among others. Owing to its importance, the crop is now part of the mandate of the Nigeria's foremost cereals research institute, the National Cereals Research Institute, Badegi, Niger State.
