Harare — THE election of ZANU-PF's national political commissar has been shelved until the party's congress slated for December.

The post fell vacant following the tragic death of Elliot Manyika from injuries sustained in a car crash last December.

ZANU-PF insiders said the matter was no longer urgent since the restructuring of the party's provincial executives had been completed.

"The appointment of the political commissar is no longer an urgent issue as the late Manyika had already covered a lot of ground in restructuring the provincial leaderships except for Harare Province where there are still outstanding issues of people being imposed," the source said.

"It has been shelved for the December congress. However, that post could be shared as once mooted by the President during one of his speeches where he mentioned that since it involves a lot of work, it could be prudent to ponder on whether or not the post should be shared."

ZANU-PF's deputy spokesperson Ephraim Masawi said he was not qualified to answer questions pertaining to the appointment of Politburo members as this was the prerogative of President Robert Mugabe.
