Nigeria: Police Machine Team Qualifies for FCT Challenge Cup Finals

The FCT Police Machine football team has, for the first time since 1989 that it was floated, qualified for the finals of the 2009 State Challenge Cup.

Elated at the feat, the Inspector General of Police, Mike Okiro, has charged the team to "fly the baton to greater heights so as to hoist the Nigeria Police flag at the venues of any national football competition".

Okiro also noted that sports is a veritable instrument in police-public interaction, which will facilitate an avenue for greater information flow aimed at improving the crime prevention and control efforts of the Nigeria Police.

The feat has however qualified the team as one of those to represent the FCT at next year's National Challenge Cup competition, which the police are considering as a major plus.

"The feat is a pointer to the police preparedness for greater exploits in the forthcoming Armed Forces and other security games and the West African Police Games", Austin Obaedo, the team's coach said.
