An 83-year-old gunrunner, Bala Joji, has submitted himself to crime buster, Ali Kwara as he got wind that Kwara had perfected plans of arresting him in connection with some weapons he sold to criminals.
Arraigning the octogenarian before newsmen in Kano yesterday, Kwara revealed that it was the second time Malam Joji entered his net, saying he was later discharged the first time he arrested and handed him over to the police. The crime buster stated further that some robbers he apprehended recently linked him up to Joji, and on getting wind of the development, the old gunrunner submitted himself to Ali Kwara. Kwara revealed that when the man came to his Bauchi residence, he demanded for pen and paper to write the confession. While giving up the illicit trade, Kwara said the blind arms dealer wrote the long list of those he sold guns to and where they can be traced.
According to Ali Kwara, most of the guns were confiscated, alongside the bearers, in Adamawa, Taraba and Plateau States .
Revealing the methods he applied in arresting the robbers and the arm dealers, Alhaji Kwara added that he keeps the information he coughed out from the robbers to arrest the remaining ones at large.
Speaking to our reporter, Joji revealed that he had been in the arms deal for about 25 years and despite the fact that he had been into the police net on several occasions he was never convicted by any court. "I lost sight about 10 years ago and I have been a gunrunner for about 25 years now. I can tell you the make, quality and value of any gun I touched. You know the blind assess things by texture," he said.
Joji however alleged that the major source of his arms was the police in the state he operates.
The Taraba-born arms dealer then revealed that he could not tell the enority of the amount of guns he sold to robbers, ethnic warlords and other people who buy guns for self-defence.
