Luanda — About three million simple cases and 200,000 of serious cases with 9,000 deaths were registered in the country, in 2008, ANGOP learnt this Tuesday here from a source of the National Malaria Control Programme (PNCM).
According to its national assistant co-ordinator, Milton Saraiva, the death rate has been decreasing for the past two years due to the epidemiological coverage being implemented nationwide.
He added that there was a slight increase of assisted cases in 2008, due to the expansion and improvement of services, utilisation of medicines in large scale and a greater coverage of cases because people gained trust and seek assistance more often.
The source said that the programme is making great interventions, such as the upgrading of physicians, nurses and laboratory technicians, for the improvement of the medical and laboratory diagnosis, as well as the treatment of the cases.
The aforementioned programme increased the coverage with insecticide-treated materials and also intensified the integrated control of the vector through air and inter-house spraying, as well as anti-larva operations.
