Zimbabwe: ABC Group Rebranding

Harare — ZIMBABWEAN founded regional banking group, ABC Holdings Limited, yesterday announced that it is rebranding as BancABC.

This exercise will reflect the group's growth and transformation as it prepares to launch its retail business.

The move comes as ABC group expands its investment in Zimbabwe, with the planned opening of two BancABC branches in Harare and Bulawayo.

These will offer services to both corporate and retail customers.

Subject to regulatory approvals and starting from the third quarter of 2009, continuing into 2012, BancABC will also be opening branches across Botswana, Mozambique, Tanzania and Zambia.

The group is currently investing heavily in technology, people, processes and channels aimed at delivering a unique retail experience to its customers.

It is in line with, and to enhance, this strategic thrust that BancABC has been born.

Speaking about the brand launch, managing director for Zimbabwean operations Mrs Zandile Shaba said:

"Zimbabwe is an important market for the bank and our roots are in this country.

"In acknowledgement of this, we will be celebrating the first pan-African launch of the BancABC brand at the Harare International Festival of the Arts 2009.

"We are proud to have supported Hifa through ten years of incredible success.

"The theme for this year's Hifa is Enligh10ment and we know that BancABC will shine a light for banking excellence in Zimbabwe."

She added: "We are excited about BancABC, which takes our image and brand positioning to a whole new level.

"We are confident that it will enhance our efforts to deliver superior quality service and a unique experience to all our customers -- which is our brand promise.

"At the same time that we are launching our new brand, we are also adopting a new pay-off line 'Fresh Thinking, Smart Banking' which reflects a new energy and commitment to the market."

The group's brand consultants, Brand Union, are leading the rebrand process.

The brand itself is a reflection of the bank's planned transformation into a modern African, full-service, banking offering which includes wholesale corporate, investment banking and retail and SME banking.

The new logo and brand proposition will be introduced in all of the countries over the next few weeks.

BancABC is a Botswana registered company with primary listing on the Botswana Stock Exchange and secondary listing on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange.

The group has operations in Botswana, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe and has an office in South Africa.
