Monrovia — President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has issued a Proclamation, declaring the First Saturday of each month as 'Monrovia Clean-Up Day.'
Areas covered by the Proclamation include Central Monrovia, Congo Town, ELWA-Juarzon, Paynesville, Mount Barclay Gardnersville and all Estates.
Other areas include New Georgia, Pipeline Road, Bushrod Island, Caldwell, Hotel Africa Area, Lower Virginia, Brewerville and beyond.
Accordingly, President Sirleaf has further declared that on each Monrovia Clean-up Day, all public and private businesses in and round the city excluding hospitals and other life saving institutions and activities shall be closed for four hours beginning 6:00 O'Clock A.M. to 10:00 A.M, while all owners of businesses as well as all residents and citizens shall join in the community clean-up exercises.
The Proclamation takes effect beginning the First Saturday of May and will continue every other month thereafter.
The Liberian leader is also encouraging all local and national Government authorities as well as all business owners and residents within the Greater Monrovia Area (GMA) to cooperate by leading and supporting the Monthly Clean-up Day of the Capital City and its environs.
Meanwhile the office of the President has condemned acts of lawlessness and hooliganism, especially last Saturday's incident carried out against presidential task force leader Mary Broh.
Madam, Broh on her regular cleanup campaigns was attacked in Paynesville (Jacobs Town Community) and her vehicle windshield reportedly shattered.
Several persons were arrested in connection with the violence, and the Executive Mansion says they will pay the price for their actions.
"Broh is doing an excellent piece of job and the President will not tolerate any attack on her and those committed volunteers," Presidential Press Secretary Cyrus Badio stated yesterday.
Broh has been breaking down illegal structures and businesses built against city ordinances as a means of giving the city a face lift and have won more commendation that condemnation.
The new proclamation by the president will further boost the Broh's campaign to give Monrovia a face lift than before.

THIS IS A THAT WE NEED FOR THE PRESIDENT TO MAKING. THIS WILL REALLY MAKE THE FACE OF MONROVIA UNIQUE.MONROVIA A LEAST DEVELOPE CAPITAL CITY I HAVE EVER SEEN.THERE ARE SO MANY PLACE THAT THE PRESIDENT NEEDS TO BREAK DOWN RELOCATE PEOPLE IN MONROVIA. OUR ORGANIZATION IS COMING TO MEET THE PRESIDENT SOON TO DISCUSS SERIES OF DEVELOPMENTAL ISSUES THAT WILL ENCOURAGE TOURIST, BUSINESS AND FOREIGNERS TO COME TO LIBERIA.
I would like to thank the president for this step. This clean up campaign will only become a reality if it is enforce by the security personnel of this nation. I would like to suggest to the president that no vehicle is allowed to plight the root of Monrovia until after the hour. If this is not done, i am very sorry to say that it will become a failure. I saw this in Serra Leone and it work there because it was enforced by the security forces with out picking and choosing. Boakai
