Nigeria: New Air Terminal for Abuja

The Federal Government last week said it would embark on construction of a new international terminal wing for the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

Minister of Aviation, Mr Babatunde Omotoba, said this during a meeting with top officials of Lufthansa German Airlines/Techniks of Germany, to work out modalities for building of the N4billion second runway at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja.

Omotoba said when completed, the new terminal will replace the existing one, which would be converted to a local terminal.

He said President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua was desirous of transforming Abuja airport into world class, to be the hub of aviation in Africa and the envy of all.

He described the visit as a major milestone and the first real accomplishment of the path "we designed and agreed upon last November, with the help and support of the Nigerian President and President Kholer of Germany."
