Harare — ACE sungura musician, Alick Macheso, who makes history this afternoon by being the first sungura artiste to play at Hifa, is upbeat he would certainly leave a mark at the mammoth arts fete.

He plays at the Africa Sun Main Stage from 2 to 3pm this afternoon, the Lion Lager Day.

Macheso has, however, appealed to his fans used to see cranking all night pungwes to be time-conscious.

"We are ready for the task. We have been rehearsing thoroughly and we hope to delight a cosmopolitan crowd with a polished act.

"We are certainly going to play a couple of songs during the hour we have been afforded by the event organisers.

"But over and above all, I would like to appeal to my fans to be time-conscious because kana vakanonoka vanowana dzamira nemhuru," he said.

Although Macheso could not pre-empt the tracks he was likely to play during the show, he told the Herald Entertainment that he had a refreshing selection.

"I have entertained cosmopolitan crowds before and I am upbeat we will certainly get it right at Hifa.

"After all, the event organisers have briefed us about the programme in depth and we understand what they expect us to deliver," he said.

Even his manager and most trusted lieutenant William Tsandukwa was upbeat that Macheso would not only add numbers at Hifa but thrill the crowds.

"It is a challenge that requires us to put our act together. The boys are well psyched-up ahead of the gig and we would certainly deliver our best show.

"I know that some locals are expecting something out of the ordinary but my message is very clear to them: we are up to the task," he said. Macheso boasts of a discography comprising a number of successful albums namely Magariro, Simbaradzo, Vakiridzo, Zvakanaka Zvakadaro, Vapupuri Pupurai and the last Ndezvashe-Eh!

Currently, he is working on his latest album set to carry such tracks as Nguva Yekutenda and Chimoko Changu now popular with fans during live shows.
