Unidentified gunmen attacked a vehicle transporting a group of Islamic Courts Union (ICU) officers in the capital Mogadishu Tuesday, with reports saying the men are allied with the Somali interim government, Radio Garowe reports.
At least one person was killed and four others wounded, as the attackers exchanged gunfire with bodyguards of the yet-unidentified ICU officers near Black Sea intersection in Mogadishu's Hodan district.
"Armed groups driving a car with tinted windows attacked a vehicle transporting the ICU officers," said one ICU source, but refused to identify the men who were targeted.
He confirmed that the dead victim was one of the ICU bodyguards and that all the wounded persons were fighters. The attackers escaped and no civilians were hurt in the skirmish.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Mogadishu has been the scene of violent attacks among Islamist groups in recent weeks.
Two ICU militia commanders and a Somali lawmaker with close ties to the ICU were gunned down in Mogadishu last month. Separately, a senior member of Al Shabaab was shot and killed inside the notorious Bakara Market in retaliation.
