Nigeria: It's Victory Well Deserved, Says Odanye

Lagos — Governorship candidate of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) in Osun State at the 2007 general election, Chief Tunde Odanye, has described the declaration of Mr. Segun Oni as the winner of the rerun election in Ekiti State as victory well deserved.

Odanye who spoke from London in a telephone conversation yesterday, said it would have been difficult for Action Congress (AC) governorship candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, to win the election in view of the development that Oni had brought to Ekiti during his 21-month reign.

He however, commended both Oni and Fayemi over their conduct throughout the time the battle lasted, saying they never uttered negative utterances against each other as their followers did.

"I am happy for him. I think it's a victory well deserved. I think it was only fair and just that he won. With all the important developments that he has brought to Ekiti, it would have been difficult for Fayemi to win. If AC won, it would have been a victory of propaganda, a gang up of people who should be a dunghill of history and everything negative.

"I must commend Fayemi and Oni that all through the contest, they did not engage in negative attacks as friends. The same could not not be said of their supporters such as Fayose", he said.
