IN a bid to enhance profitability in printing with inks and toners made by HP, the General Manager Marketing, Task Systems Limited, Mrs Olufunke Oduntan has called on corporate and individual users to always buy from the authorized channel. She said that the open market might sell cheaper printing supplies but users must know that these cheap supplies end up being more expensive in the long run because of damage to equipment, poor quality print, repeat jobs and loss of man-hours in managing resultant problems.

Oduntan emphasized the importance of buying genuine products from authorized dealers even at a little extra cost, as it would prove cheaper in the long run and add extra value.

Odunfa made the ascertions as her company was presenting a new campaign against fake products, to the media. The new campaign is in partnership with HP Supplies and targeted at top IT and Procurement managers in government, the private sectors and individual users.

She however explained that the press campaign was being run in color in order to help customers to identify the numerous security marks that HP has put in place to differentiate the original packs from the imitation packs. She added that the truly fool proof way to purchase original printing supplies was to buy only from authorized channel.

Oduntan also revealed that Task has put in place despatch riders on motor cycles who deliver toners and cartridges direct to consumers on just a phone call. Meanwhile, HP's Channel Manager ,Supplies, for West Africa, Mrs Jovita Agwu, provided tips on how to identify fake supplies.

She clarified that HP has not licensed any company to manufacture supplies on its behalf, urging the public to dismiss such stories as they are false explanations being peddled in the market by unscrupulous suppliers to persuade end-users to buy from dealers outside the channel. On the high cost of genuine supplies, Mrs Agwu explained that it is not possible for HP to crash prices to match those of fake products because it costs more to make genuine products.

She assured that HP will soon come up with measures to stem the prevalence of counterfeit products in the market.
